Mayweather announces he’ll fight Marcos Maidana

Undefeated American boxer Floyd Mayweather made it official on Tuesday, announcing on Twitter that he will be fighting Argentine Marcos Maidana on May 3 (May 4, PHL time).

Mayweather has long been deciding between Maidana and Briton Amir Khan. An online poll conducted on Mayweather’s website saw fans opting for the latter, with 20,105 votes versus 15,474 for Maidana, but it appeared to have little to no bearing on his choice.

Maidana, the current WBA welterweight titlist, has a record of 35-3-0, with 31 of those wins coming via KO. He has won his last four fights, including most recently, a unanimous decision over Adrien Broner last December.

Mayweather meanwhile is a perfect 45-0-0, 26 via KO. In his last bout, he earned a majority decision over Saul Alvarez, to retain the WBA light (super) middleweight title and won the WBC and The Ring light middleweight belts. - AMD, GMA News
