IBF orders Pinoy boxer Michael Farenas to fight Diego Magdaleno
By JM SIASAT
Former two-division world champion Gerry Peñalosa says that his hard-hitting protege Michael Farenas has been mandated by the IBF to face Mexican-American fighter Diego Magdaleno in his next bout.
The showdown between the 30-year-old Farenas and the #6 IBF ranked Magdaleno will determine the number one contender for the IBF world super featherweight title.
Farenas was supposed to be the next challenger for Rances Barthelemy's world title after an impressive win over Mark Davis earlier this month. However, the IBF instead sanctioned Barthelemy vs Fernando Saucedo of Argentina.
The winner of the said bout will then be mandated by the IBF to defend the world title against the winner of Farenas-Magdaleno.
"Magdaleno is a good boxer, it will be a hard fight for both" said Peñalosa.
Negotiations will start this week and in the event that both camps can't come to an agreement, a purse bid will soon follow. — JST, GMA News
