Signed and sealed: Pinoy fighter Sonny Boy Jaro gets shot at WBC super flyweight title

Former WBC world flyweight title holder Sonny Boy Jaro will have a chance to become a world champion once more when he fights Mexican Carlos Cuadras for the WBC super flyweight title in Mexico on September 20.

Reports of the world title showdown surfaced a week ago but the contracts were only signed on Sunday.

Sonny Boy's manager Aljoe Jaro, who had been working to get the fight done for quite, some time is confident of his fighter's chances of taking home the title.

"We have a huge chance of winning," told Aljoe Jaro. "We've sparred against a world champion and had a lengthy preparation for this fight."

The hard hitting Sonny Boy (37-13-5, 27KOs), now 32, first became a world champion in 2012 when he upset Pongsaklek Wonjongkam in Thailand. Jaro lost the title four months later in his first defense against Toshiyuki Igarashi of Japan.

His 25-year-old opponent Carlos Cuadras is unbeaten in 34 fights and would enjoy a height, age and hometown crowd advantage come fight night. — JST, GMA News
