Floyd Mayweather 'definitely wants' to fight Pacquiao, says Showtime

Floyd Mayweather wants to get in the ring with Manny Pacquiao — at least according to the television network with whom the American boxer is signed to a fight deal.

A spokesperson for Showtime confirmed this in an email to the Los Angeles Times.

"We can confirm that Floyd Mayweather definitely wants the Pacquiao fight," the email read. "Everyone on our side - Floyd, CBS and Showtime - is advocating for the fight to happen."

In the past, talks between the two fighters have repeatedly broken down, mainly due to demands from Mayweather. The tumultuous negotiations have even become the subject of a new commercial starring Pacquiao, poking fun at Mayweather's apparent lack of desire to fight the Filipino champion.

But earlier this week, Pacquiao's promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank bared that new talks are ongoing, with no less than Les Moonves, the president and CEO of CBS Corporation that owns Showtime, spearheading the negotiations.

"If it happens, we're considering the Cowboys Stadium," said Arum. "It is the only venue which has the capacity to host a big show such as the Pacquiao-Mayweather fight."

Pacquiao, for his part, earlier said he was open to the possibility of fighting Mayweather.

"Anything could happen," he said. "For as long as I am still in boxing, and he is still here, there's always a chance that we could fight together."

Mayweather is scheduled to return to the ring in May. Pacquiao, meanwhile, still needs to hurdle unbeaten American Chris Algieri in Macau on Sunday. — JST, GMA News
