Pacquiao explains why he wasn't able to finish Algieri with knockout

Manny Pacquiao sent Chris Algieri to the canvas no less than six times in the world welterweight title bout on Sunday.

But despite the Filipino ring icon's best efforts, he was unable to end his five-year knockout drought, as Algieri finished the fight on his feet.

Pacquiao explained in an interview with Jessica Soho why he was unable to finish off Algieri.

Nagkaroon tayo ng talo dahil sa pagiging careless," said Pacquiao, who suffered a shocking knockout defeat to Juan Manuel Marquez. Both Pacquiao and trainer Freddie Roach have noted that the surprise loss came due to a bit of carelessness.

Pacquiao noted that Algieri had intended to keep running from the beginning of their fight.

"Ayaw na niyang makipag-engage sa start pa lang ng first round," said Pacquiao.

Pacquiao's assistant trainer and best friend Buboy Fernandez didn't have any issue with the fighter's decision to exercise caution.

— Bianca Rose Dabu/JST, GMA News
