Mayweather: Pacquiao can’t spoil my record
Following the official announcement of his fight with Manny Pacquiao, Floyd Mayweather Jr. said on Saturday that Pacman will not put a blemish on his pristine record.
"I am the best ever, TBE, and this fight will be another opportunity to showcase my skills and do what I do best, which is win," the American boxer said in a statement according to The Guardian.
The undefeated pound-for-pound king, who holds a perfect 47-0 win-loss card in his professional career, said the Filipino fighter will just be an addition to the list of boxers who went down against him.
"Manny is going to try to do what 47 before him failed to do but he won’t be successful. He will be number 48," he said.
Both boxers are already past their prime, with Mayweather turning 38 and Pacquiao suffering a knockout against Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012.
Mayweather, however, remains the favorite by odds-makers with Pacman going a bit soft over the years, as admitted by his long-time trainer Freddie Roach.
Despite the underdog status, Pacquiao's camp is confident about the eight-division champion's chances to stage an upset that would spoil Mayweather's perfect career.
The two fighters are scheduled to share a ring on May 2 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas in what is widely considered to be the largest bout in the sport. — Marisse Panaligan/LBG, GMA News
