Computer glitch? MGM Grand Hotel appears sold out on Pacquiao-Mayweather bout date

Is the MGM Grand Hotel, the venue of Filipino boxing champ and Sarangani Rep. Emmanuel "Manny" Pacquiao's bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr., indeed fully booked?

That would seem to be the case, if one tried to book a room online for May 1 or 2 – at least as of Saturday afternoon, Manila time.

Selecting May 1 or 2 as an arrival date, and opting for a one-night stay at one room with two guests per room would lead to the error message, "Regrettably, we are fully committed for your requested dates."

Rates at the West Wing King Room as of Saturday start at $1,592 (P70,445) per night. The Grand King Room costs $1,838 (P81,330) a night.

On Saturday morning (PHL time), Mayweather confirmed his bout with Pacquiao will push through on May 2.

But boxing and gambling aficionados wanting to watch the bout could gamble on a report on USA Today that indicated this could just all be a computer glitch.

The USA Today report said the glitch made it appear the MGM Grand was sold out for May 1 and May 2, minutes after the Pacquiao-Mayweather bout announcement.

It said the hotel claimed as of Friday night (US time) that it has plenty of rooms available for the event’s weekend.

USA Today quoted MGM Grand spokesperson Yvette Monet as saying the hotel was nowhere near being sold out, and that a toll-free number would allow reservations for fight weekend. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
