Wise money? Bets continue to pour in for underdog Pacquiao against Mayweather

Despite being widely considered as an underdog against the undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr., Manny Pacquiao is closing in on betting odds ahead of their scheduled megafight on May 2.

According to ESPN.com, Las Vegas bookkeeper Jimmy Vacarro said that bets as high as $10,000 are being posted on Pacman, resulting in a huge jump from +275 to +175 odds at present.

Vacarro further said that many bettors are picking the Filipino ring icon because a $100 bet could earn $250, compared to the $300 needed to earn $100 for the American boxer.

The veteran boxing bookkeeper said that during the fight week six weeks from now, the betting odds could very well be even between the two pound-for-pound fighters.

Former Ilocos Sur governo Chavit Singson, who is also a close friend of the Sarangani representative, is confidently placing his "wise money" on Pacquiao.

"'Pag dumarating ako nagbabago ang odds," Singson told 24 Oras. "Kapag pumunta ako ng 10, maraming pumupusta ng piso."

He said that there is no doubt the Filipino ring icon will defeat Mayweather in the richest boxing fight at MGM Grand Garden Arena.

"Kapag nakatikim ng suntok 'yan, magbabago gaya ni (Oscar) Dela Hoya nang tamaan ni Manny nagbago," he said.

"Talagang maghahanda 'yan. Kaya malamang mas mabilis pa 'yan sa ipinakita niya kay (Chris) Algieri palagay ko," he added. —Marisse Panaligan/JST, GMA News
