Roach: Rigondeaux not sparring with Pacquiao

World junior featherweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux won't be part of Manny Pacquiao's buildup for his May 2 fight with Floyd Mayweather.

Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, who picks Pacquiao's sparring partners, told ESPN's Dan Rafael that the unbeaten Cuban won't be part of the Pacquiao camp.

"Pacquiao, who will begin sparring for the fight on Tuesday, has two sparring partners in camp at Roach’s Wild Card Boxing Club in Hollywood, California, to begin with (with more coming). They are Kenneth Simms Jr. (5-0, 2 KOs) and Rashidi Ellis (14-0, 11 KOs)," wrote Rafael.

Sources earlier told GMA News Online that Rigondeaux was being tapped to spar with Pacquiao, perhaps to mimic the defensive speed of Mayweather in the ring. —JST, GMA News
