Rematch with Mayweather? Juan Manuel Marquez wants one final fight before retirement

Juan Manuel Marquez wants to showcase his talent one last time before finally calling it a day in a professional prizefighting career that has spanned three decades.

Most remembered for his four epic encounters with Manny Pacquiao, the 41-year-old Marquez has been off the ring for twelve months due to a knee injury he suffered last year.

"I want to keep fighting, at least to have one more fight," Marquez told boxingscene.com.

"My family has asked me to leave boxing, but I want to do another fight because I still feel good. However, the final decision will be made within a month -- that will be when the doctors will advise me if I can be well enough [to return to the ring] with respect to the injury that I have on my one knee which I have been treating for a while."

Marquez's promoter Fernando Beltran, meanwhile, wants to see his top fighter in a rematch against Floyd Mayweather, saying the Mexican will do better than his lopsided defeat in 2009.

"He has always spoken of the welterweight title, and there are Kell Brook and Floyd Mayweather," Beltran told ESPN Deportes.

"Obviously we would love to fight with Mayweather because while they fought each other already, it took place under very adverse conditions and now things would be different." -- JST, GMA News
