Juan Manuel Marquez: Mayweather 'protected' in Vegas, can only be beaten by KO
Juan Manuel Marquez isn't thrilled about the idea of fighting Floyd Mayweather once again.
Marquez and Mayweather tangled in 2009 - a fight the brash American won by a lopsided unanimous decision.
While Marquez's promoter Fernando Beltran is hoping to land a rematch with Mayweather believing his fighter will do better this time, the Mexican legend expressed his concerns about the prospective matchup.
"If that fight is proposed and the conditions are acceptable, then of course [I would do it]. But we all know how things are done when fighting Mayweather in Las Vegas. In that city the officials protect him, let him do everything. Fighting him there is a burden," Marquez told boxingscene.com.
"Look, do you know how Mayweather can be beaten? Only by knockout, and how can you knock out an opponent who does not want to fight, who doesn't throw punches, and hits you with a jab and you may have won the round but they still give it to him?"
Marquez, 41, has been out of the ring for a year due to a knee injury he suffered in training camp. He plans to fight one last time before finally calling it a day in professional prizefighting. -- JST, GMA News
