'Floyd will not be dictated to by any organization' says Mayweather Promotions CEO

Mayweather Promotions CEO: It was a disgrace to strip Floyd of a world title!

Mayweather Promotions CEO Leonard Ellerbe sounded off at World Boxing Organization's decision to strip Floyd Mayweather of the WBO world welterweight title his client won over Manny Pacquiao a couple of months ago.

In a conversation with ESPN, Mayweather's longtime associate noted that the WBO's course of action was a disgrace, stating that the brash American should have the freedom to do what he wants with the belt.

"It's a complete disgrace. Floyd will decide what, or if any, actions he will take," said Ellerbe.

"But in the meantime he's enjoying a couple of hundred million he made from his last outing and this has zero impact on anything he does."

Shortly after the historic Pacquiao-Mayweather bout on May 2 (May 3 PHL time), Mayweather declared in a post-fight press conference that he intends to vacate his world titles, saying he'd love to give other fighters a chance to fight for the belts.

Two months later and to the disappointment of many, Mayweather, like in the past, failed to relinquish the titles. He also failed to pay WBO a $200,000 sanctioning fee and missed the deadline to express what his real intentions are with the belt which ultimately prompted the organization to strip him of the title.

Ellerbe claims that Mayweather has nothing but respect for boxing's major sanctioning bodies, but declared that none of the organizations should dictate the pound-for-pound king what to do.

"Floyd Mayweather has a great deal of respect for each and every organization, as he has always had in his 19-year career but he will not be dictated to by any organization or person as it relates to his decision making," says Ellerbe.

"I'm not surprised at all because of the individuals involved we're talking about. We have the best attorney in the game, John Hornewer, and we are fully aware of what our rights are. Floyd will decide what he wants to do." - Reuters
