Ronda Rousey no longer a Pacquiao fan after gay slur
Mixed martial arts champion Ronda Rousey gave her two cents on Manny Pacquiao's anti-gay comments.
The popular UFC fighter, who visited the Filipino ring icon during his training in a show of support for his bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr. last year, only learned of Pacquiao's comments when she was informed by TMZ in an interview.
Rousey has a lot of respect for Pacquiao, but she is not backing him up this time around.
"I understand that a lot of people use religion as a reason to be against gay people," she said. "But I mean, there was no 'Thou shall not be gay.' You know? God never said that."
Pacquiao, who is running for senator in the May elections, said in an interview that gay couples who engage in homosexual relations are "worse than animals."
He has since apologized and said he was not condemning gays, but in a now deleted Instagram post, he later quoted a Bible verse saying that gays should be put to death.
Rousey, for her part, said she heeds the words of Pope Francis, the current leader of the Roman Catholic church.
"I really think that our pope right now is boss," she said. "He was saying I think something like religion should be all-encompassing and should be welcoming everyone and loving everyone and not leaving people out."
