Pinoy contender Jerwin Ancajas' world title shot moved to September

Filipino super flyweight prospect Jerwin Ancajas has a new date for his first world title attempt when he battles IBF world super flyweight champion McJoe Arroyo at Strike Coliseum in Bacoor, Cavite.

Originally scheduled on April 16, the fight is officially moved to September 3 after Arroyo suffered an injury in training camp. The bout is promoted by Manny Pacquiao's MP Promotions and is open to the public for free.

"Jerwin didn't stop training, he's very determined to win this fight," Ancajas' trainer and manager Joven Jimenez told GMA News Online.

"We took his level of training down a notch [after the postponement] so he wouldn't overtrain."

Ancajas, 24, has long been one of the most promising boxers from the Philippines and is coming off an eleven-fight win streak all by stoppages. He also holds an impressive record of 24-1-1 with 16 knockouts.

Arroyo, meanwhile, is unbeaten in 17 fights with 8 wins coming by way of knockout. He defeated Filipino boxer Arthur Villanueva in his last and is flying to Manila to defend his title for the first time. —JST, GMA News
