Bob Arum likens Lomachenko to Muhammad Ali, says Pacquiao fight possible

Hall of Fame promoter Bob Arum sees a young Muhammad Ali in two-division champion Vasyl Lomachenko each time the Ukrainian pugilist steps inside the ring.

Lomachenko, who holds a record of 6-1 with 4 knockouts, made history by being a world champion in two weight classes with only seven fights under his belt.

Lomachenko, 28, is set to face his biggest challenge yet when he defends his WBO world super featherweight title against Nonito Donaire's old tormentor Nicolas Walters on November 26 (November 27 PHL time) at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.

"I would like to say this; that Vasyl Lomachenko is technically the best fighter that I have seen since the early Muhammad Ali," says Arum.

"There is nobody that I have seen, and there have been a lot of great technical fighters that I have seen -- Alexis Arguello was one, Floyd Mayweather certainly, Manny Pacquiao, but there has been nobody with the skills that Vasyl Lomachenko has."

A two-time Olympic gold medalist, scribes often cite Lomachenko as one of the greatest if not the greatest amateur boxer to make the transition to professional boxing.

And while there's a huge amount of weight difference between him and Manny Pacquiao, Arum revealed that Lomachenko could possibly get to fight the Filipino ring icon next year.

"It is not beyond the realm of possibility that he and Manny [Pacquiao] could fight sometime next year. Lomachenko wants challenges and he is a tremendous talent," Arum quipped.

"His upside is enormous and a lot of people are watching him -- not just boxing fans because he is an unbelievable talent. They see him on Youtube and on HBO and have said what an unbelievable talent he is." — BAP, GMA News
