Magdaleno: ‘Donaire has to earn a rematch with me’

WBO world super bantamweight champion Jessie Magdaleno is not keen on giving Nonito Donaire an immediate rematch following their 12-round encounter last November.

Donaire has been consistently calling out the 25-year-old Magdaleno on social media since losing his title to the latter. The newly crowned champ, however, said Donaire should earn the right to face him inside the ring again.

"I would like Donaire to get some more fights in and make his way back up. He's been all over Twitter and Instagram saying he gave me an opportunity but he didn't give me no opportunity. I worked hard for it," Magdaleno told boxingscene.com.

"I was the mandatory fighter for that belt since the beginning of the year and he didn't want to give me the fight. He actually ducked me twice. Maybe later on down the road that fight can happen but for now I want to see what else is out there for me."

And while Magdaleno has no particular opponent in mind for his next fight, he says he simply wants to explore other options at 122 pounds than giving Donaire a shot at his title.

"I want to see whatever other big names at 122 (super bantamweight division) are there for me," Magdaleno quipped. —ALG, GMA News
