Pacquiao dominates Broner to retain WBA title

Manny Pacquiao fashioned out an impressive decision victory against Adrien Broner to retain his WBA welterweight title on Sunday in Las Vegas.

Judges scored the fight 117-111, 116-112, 116-112, all for Pacquiao.

The Filipino fight icon flustered Broner with superior hand speed from the get-go, winning points with his aggressiveness throughout the fight.

With the win, Pacquiao improved his record to 61 victories against seven defeats and two draws. Broner dropped to 33-4-1.

Pacquiao put Broner in trouble with a nice offensive flurry near the end of Round Seven, setting up powerful combinations with feints against his wary opponent. Broner was left having to clinch to survive the round without a knockdown.

After a quiet eighth round, Pacquiao pressed the attack anew in the ninth, scoring on a nice left straight set up by his wicked jab, leaving Broner again on the ropes before the bell rang.

Pacquiao looked like the fresher fighter through the matchup despite being 11 years older than Broner. He continued to be aggressive through the rest of the match despite a comfortable lead in the cards.

The win puts Pacquiao in prime position for a big ticket rematch with Floyd Mayweather, who was one of the promoters of the card. Their 2015 match, won by Mayweather, broke numerous records in terms of earnings for boxing.
