Pacquiao a legend at 40 —sports analyst
At 40, Filipino boxer and lawmaker Manny Pacquiao is already a legend.
This was according to sports analyst JM Siasat, a day after Pacquiao defeated American boxer Adrian Broner and successfully defended his WBA welterweight title in Las Vegas.
Interviewed on Unang Balita on Monday, Siasat, however, admitted that Pacquiao is no longer as fast in his boxing moves as in his previous matches.
"Manny Pacquiao at 40 years old is a legend. He's good, he's a great fighter... he's good, but he's old," Siasat said.
"I mean the speed is not the same anymore. I mean that's very evident nung Round 7 na nasaktan niya si Adrian Broner. Makikita mo naman eh he doesn't throw the same amount of speed... But it doesn't mean that he is a bad fighter now."
Siasat added, "A great boxer even though past na ng prime nila 'yan, they're always capable of beating good boxers... Technique, experience-wise andoon eh makikita mo kahit sa foot work, 'yun talaga 'yung naging key sa laban na 'to."
Pacquiao defeated Broner via unanimous decision in which the judges scored the bout 117-111, 116-112, and 116-112.
For Siasat, what Pacquiao showed in his recent fight was a "very dominant performance," adding that Broner supposedly did not know how to fight the Filipino boxer.
"Personally I scored the fight 118-110 in favor of Manny Pacquiao. Ang hindi ko nakikita na score card 116-112... Throughout the fight he (Broner) didn't know how to fight Manny Pacquiao," Siasat said.
"Ang ginawa ni Adrian Broner throw a jab, throw a right straight and left hook... umikot lang sa tatlong suntok na 'yun 'yung mga counter shots niya. He's not good enough to position himself in an angle para i-land 'yung mga power shots niya," he added.
With his latest triumph, Pacquiao improved his record to 61 victories against seven defeats and two draws. —Anna Felicia Bajo/KBK, GMA News
