Reso commending Pacquiao's win vs. Broner filed at Senate

A resolution commending Filipino boxing champion and Senator Manny Pacquiao for successfully defending his World Boxing Association (WBA) welterweight championship title against American boxer Adrien Broner in Las Vegas, Nevada, has been filed in the Senate.

In Senate Resolution No. 997, Senator Sonny Angara said Pacquiao’s victory despite the  11-year gap exhibited “discipline, determination, and experience.”

“More importantly, Senator Pacquiao—with this recent performance—proved to boxing fans and critics that the Manny Pacquiao journey will still continue,” he said.

Pacquiao, 40, outclassed the 29-year-old Broner with a unanimous decision victory. Judge Dave Moretti scored the fight 117-111, while Judges Tim Cheatham and Glen Feldman both had 116-112 in favor of the senator, who now has a record of 61 wins with 39 knockouts.

“This recent win by the 40-year-old Filipino fighting senator is not only another layer in his future hall of fame legacy. It also serves as an inspiration to all Filipinos that—with enough determination and perseverance—all of us can be world class talents,” said Angara.
