Mikey Garcia wants to make a statement against Errol Spence

MANILA - Four-division world champion Mikey Garcia will be out to make a statement when he challenges IBF world welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr. for the title on March 16 (March 17 PHL time) at the AT&T Stadium in Arlington, USA.

Garcia, who holds an unbeaten record of 39-0 with 30 knockouts, will go up two weight classes in his quest to become a world champion in five different divisions. He concedes that he is the smaller man between the two, but says that it would hardly be a factor on fight night.

"A lot of people underestimate the power when they face me. They don’t see my physical size as a threat. But you know they feel the power once we’re in the ring and definitely change their minds," told Garcia.

"[I wanted to fight Spence] because he’s the best right now in the (welterweight) division. I want to make a statement. I want to make a mark, and you know I have to do that against the best."

Viewed by countless observers as a heavy underdog against his fellow unbeaten prizefighter in Spence (24-0, 21KOs), Garcia believes that his superior skill set would get him the victory on the evening of March 16.

"I believe I’m a better fighter overall," he quipped. "I’ve always said I’m better than him. Not by a lot, but just enough to beat him. He also reminds me of myself in a lot of ways, the way he fights, the way he is." — DVM, GMA News
