Team Ancajas looks to fight in September, takes aim at Juan Francisco Estrada

Reigning IBF world super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas is looking to return inside the ring in September or late October, according to international matchmaker Sean Gibbons.

Ancajas, 27, is coming off a successful 7th title defense against Ryuichi Funai of Japan last month at Stockton Arena in California, where he won by way of seventh-round knockout.

The team is targeting a unification bout with WBC world super flyweight champion Juan Francisco Estrada (39-3, 26KOs), who defeated former lineal champion Srisaket Sor Rungvisai last April.

"Right now Top Rank is looking at scheduling Jerwin again in late September til the end of October. Our plan was we were chasing Rungvisai, we wanted to unify with him, but he lost to Juan Estrada and now Estrada is the man," said Gibbons.

"If you look at the top 115 pounders, it's Estrada then Jerwin second, Yafai, of course Donnie Nietes is up there. The idea  is to move forward to make the fight with Estrada, that's what we told Top Rank."

Gibbons further cites that Ancajas (31-1-2, 21KOs) is willing to fight anyone and meet all comers head on, but the team would rather face his fellow world champions in the super flyweight division.

"We really want to fight champions. Anybody with a belt that's who we want to fight," Gibbons quipped.

"Jerwin has beaten guys, but people love unifications they love the best fighting the best. Right now Estrada is the man and that's the guy we want to fight." — BAP, GMA News
