Oscar de la Hoya to start sparring as he continues to tease comeback fight

Retired six-division world champion Oscar de la Hoya continues to tease a ring return at 47 years old.

In a recent conversation with KCBS TV Los Angeles, “Golden Boy” revealed that he is about to start sparring again in a couple of weeks.

“I’ve been thinking about it more and more each day,” he said. “I start sparring in two weeks. We’ll see how I feel with a black eye.”

De la Hoya last saw action inside the ring in 2008 where he was sent to retirement by Filipino boxing icon Manny Pacquiao via eight-round technical knockout.

His pronouncement came after former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson revealed on social media his tremendous shape and suggested a comeback at 54 years old.

And while nothing is set on stone for both Tyson and De la Hoya, the latter says that he would keep training then look at possibly setting a date next year being the latest.

“I’ve been actually training and actually running,” he quipped.

“Who knows if it will take place at the end of the year or early next year. But I’m getting there. I feel really good.” – RC, GMA News
