Renowned boxing trainer Naazim Richardson passes away

Renowned boxing trainer Naazim Richardson has passed away. The cause of death is yet to come to light.

The beloved trainer and devout Muslim coached top tier fighters such as Bernard Hopkins and Shane Mosley.

In 2009, Richardson made waves in professional boxing after he caught Antonio Margarito with a plaster-like substance in his wraps before his title defense against his ward Shane Mosley.

They won the fight to claim the WBA world welterweight title via ninth-round technical knockout.

Richardson was also in Hopkins’ corner when the latter pulled an upset against the hard-hitting and then undefeated Kelly Pavlik in October 2008.

Richardson ran away from home at 14 years old and was homeless as a teenager. He often credited boxing for saving his life.

His son, Rock Allen, was a light welterweight prospect with an unblemished record of 15-0 with 7 knockouts whose career got derailed after he suffered injuries in a car accident. -- BAP, GMA News
