Mikey Garcia says Manny Pacquiao is fighting him before Conor McGregor
Conor McGregor's next fight may very well be against Manny Pacquiao, but it looks like Pacman's next fight may not necessarily be with the Irish superstar.
In an interview with fighthype.com, four-division champion Mikey Garcia said he is next in line for the Filipino pride.
Garcia was previously mentioned by Freddie Roach as one of Pacquiao's potential opponents.
"I think he might be right, his next is Manny Pacquiao but Manny Pacquiao's next fight is not with Conor McGregor. Manny Pacquiao's next fight is with me. McGregor has to take a number," he said.
"McGregor's next fight might be most likely Manny Pacquiao but before that Manny Pacquiao has to fight me first and that's a hundred percent," he added.
Talks of a showdown between boxing's lone eight-division champion and former UFC featherweight and lightweight world champion McGregor made headlines this weekend when both camps confirmed that they are negotiating for a fight.
Garcia, who holds a record of 40-1 with 30 knockouts, said he saw the tweets made by McGregor but he is confident that he will get his own fight against Pacquiao.
"I saw the tweets by McGregor, I haven't seen some by Pacquiao, I don't know. I haven't seen anything," he said.
Pacquiao's special assistant Jayke Joson said the senator "doesn't want to talk about boxing" in the middle of the pandemic but he plans to donate part of his earnings from the McGregor fight to COVID-19 victims. —MGP, GMA News
