Mike Tyson fight reduced to 2-minute rounds, reveals Roy Jones

The much-awaited encounter between former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson and former four-division champion Roy Jones will be fought with two-minute rounds only.

The recent development was revealed by Roy Jones Jr. himself in a recent guesting with The Joe Rogan Experience.

“They got me doing eight two-minute rounds now. That’s to his advantage too. Everything is to his advantage, that’s to his advantage too,” said Jones.

The upcoming eight-round exhibition between the two legends that is set to take place on Nov. 28 in California will mark the 54-year-old Tyson’s first trip to the ring in 15 years.

He last fought against Kevin McBride in 2005 where he lost via technical knockout in round 6. Jones, meanwhile, last fought and won via unanimous decision against Scott Sigmon in 2018.

“At this point, the fans are so excited about it. I wouldn’t want to pull the rug from under the fans and they (team Tyson) will try and sue me,” said Jones.

“It’s not really worth it, so I’m going to go in and do these two-minute rounds, but I’m going to have to work a little bit faster than I expected to.”

And even though the fight is merely dubbed as an exhibition, the WBC has stepped in and would award the winner a special belt. It was also the major sanctioning body that decided to implement the two-minute rounds.

“They decided this just last week. They change stuff on me by the week,” Jones quipped.

“I think the WBC came in and said they want to put up some kind of title or something, so they want to cut it back to two-minute rounds.” – JM Siasat/RC, GMA News
