Vasyl Lomachenko disagrees with the scorecards, says he won the fight
Former three-division champion Vasyl Lomachenko does not agree with how his fight with Teofimo Lopez was scored by the judges.
Lomachenko and Lopez went the full twelve rounds this Sunday at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, where the latter won by unanimous decision. The scorecards were 119-109, 117-111 and 116-112.
“I think in the first half of the fight he got more rounds than I did but on the second half of the fight I took it over,” said Lomachenko through an interpreter in an interview with Top Rank Boxing.
“I was much better, but I want to go home to review the fight. I'm definitely not agreeing with the scorecards.”
While the 119-109 and 117-111 scorecards were surprising to scribes and fans alike, the end result was hardly a debate as Lomachenko barely threw a punch until round 8.
Lopez became the youngest four-belt champion in history at 23 years old and the only fighter to hold the WBC, WBA, IBF, and WBO in the lightweight division.
It was a historic win to say the least, but Lomachenko is far from sold.
“I think I won the fight but the result is the result I'm not going to argue right now. I need to see the review,” he said. — BM, GMA News
