Tyson vs Jones exceeds 1 million buys on pay-per-view–reports

The highly talked-about comeback of former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson did a lot better than the doubters thought it would, according to several reports.

The 54-year-old Tyson squared off with former four-division champion Roy Jones Jr. this past weekend in a two-minute, eight-round exhibition that ended in an unofficial draw.

According to veteran boxing journalist Dan Rafael and MMA Fighting, Tyson vs Jones which had a price tag of $49.99, sold in the neighborhood of 1.2 million pay-per-view buys.

It is a relatively huge number in recent boxing pay-per-views and would place Tyson vs Jones as the most bought boxing event this year followed by Tyson Fury vs Deontay Wilder II that did around 800,000 buys.

While it is safe to say that fans wanted to see how Tyson would fare in a fight 15 years after his retirement, the event also had entertainment spelled all over as it aired live performances by Snoop Dogg and Wiz Khalifa. – JM Siasat/RC, GMA News
