Errol Spence Jr. dominates Danny Garcia to retain WBC and IBF welterweight titles

Errol Spence Jr. has successfully defended his WBC and IBF world welterweight titles after more than a year away from the ring, following a unanimous decision win over former two-division champion Danny Garcia.

Both fighters felt each other out in the early going with jabs as both men tried to control the center of the ring. They started throwing bombs in round three, landing their respective punches on top and body.

Garcia started throwing more in round 4 after his corner instructed him to stop respecting Spence too much. Spence, meanwhile, dictated the tempo of the fight throwing combinations while Garcia waited to land the overhand right.

It was all Spence throughout the contest as Garcia seemingly snatched a point only after the reigning champion took a round off. All three judges saw the fight for Spence after twelve rounds, the scorecards were 117-111, 116-112 and 116-112.

The dominant victory improved Spence’s unblemished record to 27-0 with 21 knockouts while Garcia dropped to 36-3 with 31 knockouts. — LA, GMA News
