GGG warns Oscar de la Hoya: ‘If I got an opportunity to legally kill a person in the ring, I might seize it’

Reigning IBF and IBO world middleweight champion Gennady Golovkin did not appreciate Oscar de la Hoya bringing up his name as a possible opponent for a comeback.

The retired six-division champion De la Hoya had consistently teased a ring return at 47 years old. He last saw action against Manny Pacquiao in 2008 where he was battered and made to quit on his stool en route to an eight-round technical knockout.

Seemingly dead serious about giving boxing another go, De la Hoya is on the hunt for a possible dance partner—and one of the names he brought up was Golovkin.

"You know how easy GGG would be for me? Oh my gosh. I always took a good shot and I always took apart fighters like him. In my mind it would be that easy,” De La Hoya told boxingscene.com.

Golovkin, 38, did not take lightly De la Hoya’s words as he retaliated in a separate interview.

“You know Oscar, you know how dirty his mouth is,” Golovkin told AFP through a translator.

Once touted as one of the most feared and avoided men in boxing due to his knockout power and relentless aggression, Golovkin has issued a stern warning for De la Hoya about mentioning his name again.

“Everything involving Gennady Golovkin for him is a nightmare. He can say whatever. But let me put it this way—If I got an opportunity to legally kill a person in the ring, I might seize it.” – JM Siasat/RC, GMA News
