Holyfield in negotiations for a third fight with Tyson

Negotiations are ongoing for a rubber match between former heavyweight world champs Evander Holyfield and Mike Tyson.

In an interview with The Sun, Holyfield revealed that his team is currently in talks with the Tyson camp trying to make a third fight happen.

“The thing is that if it’s meant to be it will happen, either way, it is what it is,” said the 58-year-old Holyfield.

“What I can tell you is that my team is talking to Mike’s management, so I’m waiting for a decision. They are communicating right now.”

The heavyweight legends share one of the most storied rivalries in boxing history. In 1996, Holyfield stunned Tyson when he defeated the latter by eleventh-round technical knockout to claim the WBA world heavyweight title.

A rematch took place seven months later where Tyson was disqualified after he bit a piece off Holyfield’s ear.

Holyfield last figured in a fight in 2011 against Brian Nielsen where he won via tenth-round technical knockout.

Tyson, meanwhile, fought Roy Jones Jr. in an eight-round exhibition this past November that ended in an unofficial draw.

According to several reports, Tyson’s last ring appearance did more than 1,500,000 million in pay-per-view making Holyfield believe that a fight with his old rival would generate nine figures.

“Where an opportunity is available, I like to make the best out of what I have. I believe if I fought Mike the fight will generate $200million,” Holyfield predicted.

“It will be the biggest fight there is. That’s the honest truth. I think Mike has my message already. If he is going to do it he is, if not then he’s not.”

And while a contract is yet to be signed by both camps, Holyfield is already grinding in the gym as he prepares for a possible third encounter with Tyson.

“The thing is I’m still training for this, I know it will be some day this deal will happen and I’m ready for him. I’m doing OK. It’s a decision he has to make now and we both have to be in an agreement,” stated Holyfield.

“I’m not going to tell anybody what I’m going to do – my strategy I’m planning on using against Mike – I don’t want anyone to know.” --- BAP, GMA News
