Jake Paul's coach predicts early stoppage of Ben Askren
Jake Paul's coach BJ Flores said former Bellator and ONE Championship welterweight world champion Ben Askren would not last long inside the ring against his ward.
The pair is scheduled to duke it out in an eight-round boxing match on April 17 in a yet to be announced venue.
"Ben Askren keeps talking about his Olympic credentials and his athletic ability. First of all Jake is 100% a better athlete than Ben. He is faster, stronger, and more explosive," Flores told boxingscene.com.
"Jake boxes very naturally and has been in the ring with some of the very best 175 to 200-pound prospects in the country," he said.
Paul, a well-known YouTuber, is 2-0 as a professional boxer. He last fought in November in the co-main event of Tyson vs. Jones against former NBA player Nate Robinson where he won via second-round knockout.
Askren, meanwhile, is set to make his boxing debut. He holds a pro mixed martial arts record of 19-2 and has fought in the UFC towards the end of his career.
Though Askren definitely has the advantage in combat sports experience, Flores said that his pupil has been training with high-level fighters which would help them get the victory on fight night.
"Jake has earned his stripes in Las Vegas over the past 12 months sparring many many top level professionals and already in Florida the word is out. This kid can fight," Flores said.
"Jake regularly trains and spars with some of the very best prospects in the country. The difference is night and day. Ben Askren and the entire MMA world is in for a major surprise on April 17."
While Flores would not reveal their game plan, he predicts that Askren, who is known throughout the MMA world for his subpar striking, would not make it past round two.
"I'm not saying nothing else. We will do our talking on April 17th on Triller. Seeing some of the Ben Askren training footage, I will be shocked if this fight gets into the second round." —MGP, GMA News
