Jerwin Ancajas returns to action on April 10
Reigning IBF world super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas is set for the ninth defense of his title against Mexican contender Jonathan Javier Rodriguez on April 10 in Uncasville, Connecticut.
The 12-round contest would be held without fans in attendance, Ancajas’ trainer and manager Joven Jimenez confirmed to GMA News Online.
“He has few fight videos online and we can’t find sparring videos at all. He posts on social media, looking determined and saying hashtag April and the new,” Ancajas (32-1-2, 22KOs) previously told GMA News Online.
“It is an added motivation and challenge for me because I see myself in him when I was still a challenger. So now I am training hard so I can give him a good fight.”
Ancajas, 29, last stepped inside the ring in December 2019 when he successfully defended his gold-plated strap against Miguel Gonzalez via sixth-round technical knockout.
Rodriguez, who holds an impressive record of 22-1 with 16 knockouts, saw action last December against Julian Yedras where he won by way of round one knockout. – RC, GMA News
