Jerwin Ancajas backs Eumir Marcial, trusts him to win a gold medal in the Olympics
Reigning IBF world super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas is confident that Eumir Marcial can win a gold medal in the upcoming Olympics which is set to take place in Tokyo, Japan, from July 23 to August 8.
Ancajas and Marcial spent a lot of time together earlier this year in the USA where they trained together in preparation for their respective fights. According to the Filipino world champ, Marcial’s focus is second to none when it comes to winning Olympic gold.
“I trust Eumir because I saw his training and determination. When we go jogging he says nothing but wanting to win a gold medal and bring honor to the Philippines,” Ancajas said in Filipino.
“He sacrificed a lot there [in the USA] that even after his brother died, chose to stay because there is nothing can be done. What he wants is to give what his brother and father want [to win a gold medal].”
Asked about Marcial’s skill set, Ancajas stated that the Filipino Olympian from Zamboanga possesses great boxing IQ and hand speed.
“Eumir is smart, he adjusts to whatever style during fights and he likes to study his opponents. He also has a lot of speed despite his size.”
