John Riel Casimero to take a pay cut in next fight after Probellum wins WBO purse bid
WBO world bantamweight world champion John Riel Casimero will have to take a pay cut for his next fight when he takes on his mandatory challenger Paul Butler.
Casimero, who holds a record of 31-4 with 21 knockouts, is due to receive 75% of the $105,000 purse bid won by the newly established promotional outfit Probellum.
Probellum won the purse bid with relative ease, only adding $5,000 to the World Boxing Organization's required minimum amount.
The $105k purse bid also means that Casimero, who had a six-figure payday in his last bout, is bound to take home $78,750 before deductions while Butler will get $26,250.
The 32-year-old from Ormoc City is coming off a split decision win over former world super bantamweight champ Guillermo Rigondeaux last August.
Casimero is reportedly at odds with MP Promotions' Sean Gibbons after not receiving a contract from his handlers for a proposed showdown with WBC world bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire Jr.
Probellum is looking to hold the Casimero versus Butler fight on December 11 in Dubai or England.
