Cuarto retains IBF title via technical decision in Taduran rematch
IBF world minimumweight champion Rene Mark Cuarto made a successful defense of his title following another win in his rematch with Pedro Taduran last Sunday in Digos City.
Cuarto, 25, scored knockdowns over the former champion Taduran in rounds two and five but was also deducted a couple of points for an accidental headbutt.
It was a back and forth encounter between the pair until the referee was prompted to halt the contest in round 7 because of an accidental clash of heads.
One judge had it a draw 65-65 while the other two had it 66-64 and 65-64 for Cuarto, making him the winner by way of technical majority decision.
Cuarto, who is now 2-0 against Taduran, improved his record to 20-2-2 with 11 knockouts while Taduran fell to 14-4-1 with 11 knockouts.
