Boxing analyst reacts to criticism likening Eumir Marcial to Amir Khan

Veteran boxing analyst Atty. Ed Tolentino reacted to criticisms of Olympic bronze medalist Eumir Marcial saying the Filipino boxer has a chin similar to ex-world champion Amir Khan.

Khan, notoriously known for his glass chin throughout his career, is often stunned during fights and has been stopped in five of his six losses.

Marcial, this past weekend, was knocked down thrice before winning his second pro bout over Isiah Hart.

“I am not ready to say he is a glass chin because unlike Amir Khan, he was able to beat the count. This is a learning lesson because he was too eager he forgot to move his head. In fairness before those knockdowns, he was dominating until he got careless,” said Tolentino.

Marcial, 26, was dropped with a right hand in round one then sent to the canvas twice with the same punch in round two. He was able to beat the count to win a disputable technical knockout in round 4.

According to Tolentino, it is an experience that could be beneficial for Marcial.

“Remember, he is a southpaw and a sucker for the right hand. Kudos to Marcial he did not stop trying. He kept going for the knockout,” Tolentino stressed.

“Better for this to happen now because there are a lot of heavy punchers he would face in the middleweight division. Hopefully, he can chalk this up to experience and learn from this near disaster.”
