Oscar De La Hoya eyes July for Ryan Garcia vs. Isaac Cruz

Retired six-division champion and Golden Boy Promotions CEO Oscar De La Hoya is ready to make the highly-anticipated matchup between Ryan Garcia and Isaac Cruz in a couple of months.

De La Hoya's pronouncement came following the WBC's order for Garcia and Cruz to face each other in a lightweight title eliminator. The winner of the fight would end up fighting for the WBC 135-pound world title currently held by Devin Haney.

"We have July 16 already set aside for Ryan Garcia. We want the fight. Ryan wants the fight. There's no reason why that fight shouldn't be made. The WBC ordered it. Let's make it happen," De La Hoya told boxingscene.com.

The 23-year-old Garcia, who is extremely popular on both Instagram and YouTube, is unbeaten as a pro with a record of 22-0 with 18 knockouts. He last saw action against Emmanuel Tagoe last month at the Alamodome in San Antonio where he won by way of unanimous decision.

Cruz, meanwhile, is notoriously known for being a relentless slugger with a record of 23-2-1 with 16 knockouts. He last fought in April against Olympic gold medalist and former world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa, where he won via fifth-round technical knockout.
