Floyd Mayweather batters Don Moore in exhibition
Former five-division world champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. showcased that he still has a lot of pop in his hands following an eight-round beatdown of Don Moore this Sunday at the Etihad Arena in Abu Dhabi.
The 45-year-old Mayweather, who retired in 2017 with a perfect record of 50-0 with 27 knockouts, showcased his wide array of skills throughout the fight. He was popularly known as a defensive genius throughout his career but was happy to be the aggressor against Moore.
Moore (18-0-1, 12KOs), who used to serve as Mayweather’s sparring partner and trained under the tutelage of his uncle Roger, tried to hold his own but was overwhelmed by his foe’s superior boxing skills before getting knocked down with a body shot in round 8.
Moore was able to beat the count, survive more of Mayweather’s onslaught, and make it to the final bell. Since the fight was merely an exhibition, there was no winner declared after eight rounds of action.
On the undercard, ex-UFC middleweight world champion Anderson Silva took on Bruno Machado in another exhibition. The Brazilian showcased brilliant movement and hand speed dropping his foe in round 5 with a right hook. The fight went the full distance and no winner was declared.
