Donaire Sr. questions Casimero's ability to make 118, dismisses fight with his son

Renowned boxing trainer Nonito Donaire Sr. does not see any reason why a fight between his son Nonito Jr. and John Riel Casimero should be made.

Donaire and Casimero were supposed to lock horns inside the ring last year in what would have been a historic all-Filipino unification bout. The fight, however, was called off by Donaire after he felt disrespected by Team Casimero's shenanigans in the buildup.

Nearly a year later, both fighters are without a world title and Donaire Jr. is being asked by his father and former trainer Donaire Sr. to retire after losing to Japanese superstar and now pound-for-pound king Naoya Inoue via knockout.

"There is no sense in fighting Casimero anymore because there is nothing to fight for. There is nothing. To me, why [fight] Casimero? Who would give money for that?" Donaire Sr. told Sparring Sessions LIVE.

Casimero, meanwhile, has not fought for almost a year. He last saw action against Guillermo Rigondeaux in August where he won via split decision. He was recently stripped of his then WBO world bantamweight title for failing to defend his strap twice against his mandatory challenger.

"You think somebody would still trust Casimero to make 118 pounds? That is the question," Donaire Sr. said.

"During the time he could have, he did not. I thought he was going to get stripped after what happened in Dubai. He was given another chance but it was still the same."
