Charly Suarez defends WBA Asia superfeatherweight crown vs Mark John Yap via unanimous decision
Rio Olympian Charly Suarez defended his WBA Asia superfeatherweight crown as he won via unanimous decision against Mark John Yap on Sunday in Parañaque.
Suarez took Yap to the distance and topped the scorecards, 120-108, 120-108, and 118-110.
While Yap showed his veteran moves early in the fight, Suarez took control in the middle of the sixth round as he made a cut beneath Yap's right eye from a left hook and a quick right straight.
Yap continued his gallant stand in the second half but left-right combinations from Suarez and his counter attacks were enough for the latter to take the match.
For the 33-year old Suarez, the fight against Yap was a learning experience.
"This fight taught me how to be patient and be tactical when facing a resilient boxer like Yap," he said.
Suarez improved his record to 12-0 with seven knockouts while Yap dropped to 30-17 with 15 KOs.
Suarez first won the title in March.
