Boxer Carl Jammes Martin should start campaigning overseas — analyst

Veteran boxing analyst Atty. Ed Tolentino believes it is time for WBA Asia super bantamweight champion Carl Jammes Martin to take his act overseas.

Martin, 20-0 with 16 knockouts as a professional boxer, fought all of his twenty bouts thus far in the Philippines. In his latest outing, he successfully defended his title against Charles Tondo via lopsided unanimous decision at SM San Lazaro in Manila.

“Ready or not, he has to start invading the international fight scene. We cannot keep waiting because a boxer has limited time and opportunities,” Tolentino told Sparring Sessions LIVE.

“I want to see him take his act overseas because there lies the market and serious competition. That was the same direction Manny Pacquiao took, he eventually had to leave the Philippines.”

Martin, who is considered by many scribes and analysts as one of the most promising prospects coming out of the Philippines in recent times, should chase the spotlight in the international landscape as the local boxing scene has been stale for a while according to Tolentino.

“He is in a good weight class. They have to roll the dice. The market is overseas. It is sad to admit but there is not much activity in boxing today,” Tolentino stressed.

“There is no regular boxing program on TV, promotions come and go, and we just fight each other as oppositions if not get untested foes overseas. He has to go after the spotlight because the spotlight would not go after him. Go overseas!”
