Naoya Inoue vs. Paul Butler a done deal for December – report
The undisputed bantamweight showdown between The RING, WBC, WBA, and IBF world champion Naoya Inoue and WBO world champion Paul Butler is finally happening.
According to a report by ESPN, the fight will be held on December 13 in Japan.
Inoue, who holds a perfect record of 23-0 with 20 knockouts, is coming off a sensational second-round technical knockout victory over Nonito Donaire Jr. in June at the Super Arena in Saitama, Japan.
Butler (34-2, 15KOs) meanwhile, won a clear-cut unanimous decision nod over Jonas Sultan to claim the WBO interim bantamweight title in April.
He was elevated to full champion by the sanctioning body when John Riel Casimero was stripped of his WBO world bantamweight title after he violated a British Boxing Board of Control rule that prohibits boxers to use the sauna to cut weight before the fight.
Inoue, touted as the no. 2 pound-for-pound fighter in the world today by The RING, will become Japan's first undisputed champion should he get past Butler.
