Jade Bornea should roll the dice and fight Jerwin Ancajas – analyst

Veteran boxing analyst Ed Tolentino believes that Filipino top contender Jade Bornea should roll the dice and fight Jerwin Ancajas should the latter win his rematch against IBF world super flyweight Fernando Martinez on October 8 in Carson, California.

Bornea, 18-0 with 12 knockouts as a prizefighter, is currently ranked as the number one contender to the super flyweight world title by the International Boxing Federation. He previously expressed that he would rather not face a fellow Filipino, but Tolentino said it might be time to do so.

"If Ancajas chooses to stay [in the super flyweight division] when he beats Martinez, it is time to roll the dice. The problem is it would not favor him if he waits for a long time. He is ranked for a mandatory title shot," Tolentino told Sparring Sessions LIVE.

"It may hurt to see a Filipino versus Filipino, but we also have to put a positive spin on it. Bornea is ranked number one, he earned the ranking, so we will see two quality Filipino boxers going up for a world title. That ain't bad in my opinion."

And in the event that Martinez beats Ancajas anew, Tolentino sees a good matchup for Bornea as well.

"If Martinez wins the Ancajas rematch, be on the lookout for an all-action fight. Bornea keeps coming forward and so is Martinez. They would come to break each other's face though Martinez would be the favorite for beating Ancajas," Tolentino said.
