Jade Bornea willing to step aside for a prospective unification between Ancajas and Ioka
Jade Bornea is willing to step aside for a prospective unification bout between Jerwin Ancajas and WBO world super flyweight champion Kazuto Ioka should his fellow Filipino win the rematch against IBF world super flyweight champion Fernando Martinez on Sunday, October 9 at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California.
Bornea, currently ranked as the no.1 contender for the IBF world super flyweight title, is likely next for the winner of the Ancajas vs. Martinez rematch.
“He deserves a unification with other champions because he has been a champion for a long time. I have no problem with that because I really support champ Jerwin. Again, that is not a problem for me. I am just waiting for the right time,” Bornea told Sparring Sessions LIVE.
Ancajas and Ioka were supposed to lock horns in a unification last December but the fight was derailed by the COVID-19 pandemic. Two months later, Ancajas found himself in the ring against Martinez where he lost his then IBF world super flyweight title via unanimous decision.
Bornea says he fully supports Ancajas and is willing to wait for his time to come at a world championship glory.
“If that is another nationality I would not let it pass but he is also a Filipino. Jerwin really deserves a unification. My time will come I am always ready,” Bornea stated.
