Jerwin Ancajas offers no excuses for losing Martinez rematch

Former IBF world super flyweight champion Jerwin Ancajas is in good spirits and has no excuses for failing to regain his world title this past weekend against Fernando Martinez.

The 30-year-old Ancajas lost the world title to the Argentinian slugger this past February via unanimous decision.

A rematch took place last weekend in Carson, California, where Martinez emerged victorious via unanimous decision yet again.

Ancajas, though known for having a hard time cutting weight to 115 pounds, gave Martinez credit for beating him fair and square.

“It is not just the weight. Martinez is a really strong and good fighter. His style also made it difficult for me,” Ancajas told GMA News Online.

Ancajas, 33-3-2 with 22 knockouts as a pro, suffered back-to-back defeats for the first time in his career.

Prior to the Martinez rematch, Ancajas was urged by his trainer and manager Joven Jimenez to move up in weight instead. Still, the prizefighter ultimately decided to use his rematch clause.

“It was my decision to fight at 115 pounds again. I wanted to give it one more try but I guess it is really time to move up in weight,” Ancajas shared.
