Carl Jammes Martin suffers injury, out of May 13 card
Super bantamweight prospect Carl Jammes Martin suffered a rib injury just a day after signing a contract to fight Jun Ikegawa on the undercard of John Riel Casimero vs. Fillipus Nghitumbwa on May 13 at Okada Manila.
Martin, 23, was sent to a physician yesterday to check the severity of the injury he sustained in training. According to the prizefighter, he will have to undergo rehabilitation for two months and was left with no choice but to call off his upcoming bout.
“I am saddened to inform you that I have sustained a rib injury amid our hard training this past Sunday. Upon checking with a doctor, my rib would have two undergo two months of rehab and no activities,” Martin wrote on his Facebook.
“Because of this, I will not fight on May 13. For now, we have an ongoing negotiation between Team Wonderboy and Treasure [Boxing] Promotion. Just like you, I am saddened to lose the opportunity to fight in the said boxing event.”
Martin, 21-0 with 17 knockouts, is coming off a busy 2022 calendar having fought thrice winning two of them by way of stoppage. Eager to get back to action immediately, the young fighter from Ifugao says he will do all he can to recover from his injury.
“Expect that we will do everything to quickly recover from this injury,” Martin said.
