Teofimo Lopez decisions Josh Taylor to become two-division champion


Teofimo Lopez claimed the WBO world light welterweight title and became a two-division world champion following a unanimous decision nod over Josh Taylor this Sunday (PH time) at Madison Square Garden in New York, USA.

Taylor and Lopez went straight to action as both threw punches with bad intentions in the opening round. Lopez's speed advantage was apparent in the early going, making Taylor pay for his openings.

In round 4, Taylor and Lopez brawled and landed shots of their own. Lopez was calculated, looked to counter, and land his right hand. By round 6, Lopez was bleeding on the side of his right eye from the punches he took

Lopez repeatedly landed his right straight in round 9 stunning Taylor with clean punches and blinding speed. Taylor fought with urgency in round 11 but was getting tagged with clean shots that hurt him and was hurt with a left hook on top and a body shot in round 12.

Lopez looked to finish his foe in the last 30 seconds while Taylor looked to survive until the final bell. All three judges saw the fight for Lopez after twelve rounds earning him a unanimous decision victory. The scorecards were 115-113, 115-113, and 117-111.
