Donnie Nietes scores decision win in first fight in three years; Astrolabio wins too
Former four-division champion Donnie Nietes scored a unanimous decision win in his first fight in almost three years against Miller Alapormina on Thursday at the Elorde Sports Center in Parañaque City.
The 42-year-old Nietes showcased his signature jab, uppercut, and right straight throughout the contest. Alapormina, to his credit, brought his A game to the fight but was on the receiving end of the former champion's clean shots all night.
All three judges saw the fight for Nietes after six rounds of action, improving his professional boxing record to 44-2-6 with 23 knockouts. The scorecards were 59-55 across the board.
In the co-main event, former world champion Yukinori Oguni scored a first-round technical knockout over Pinoy journeyman Jon Jon Estrada. Two-time world title challenger Vincent Astrolabio, meanwhile, also made a successful comeback with a first-round knockout over Prasitsak Phaprom.
