Wizards' Arenas to turn over basketball court to QC community

MANILA, Philippines – Gilbert Arenas, the Adidas endorser of the Washington Wizards, will be at court side when a basketball court is turned over to a Gawad Kalinga community in Quezon City. The project is part of the adidas' social commitment to promote brotherhood through basketball, according to a statement released on Tuesday by the apparel and footwear company. "We believe that sports, specifically basketball, is a tool to help the youth foster brotherhood and camaraderie," Joey Singian, Adidas managing director, said. "The sport brings people together in the spirit of wholesome fun and unity. That's why this event is very important to us." The turnover of the court is part of the four-day Manila visit of Arenas which starts on July 5. The event is called Agent Zero Tour 2008. Adidas has also decided to bring Arenas to other communities hit hard by Typhoon Frank. "We have embraced it as our mission to help improve the lives through providing facilities that would encourage the love for the game," Singian said. "By asking Arenas to lead such an undertaking underscores our commitment to this cause." Aside from the Kawad Kalinga visit, Arenas will visit select Adidas outlets. On July 6, Arenas will be at the SM Mall of Asia at 11 a.m., and from there he will go to the Rockwell store in Makati at 2 p.m. and at TriNoma at 5 p.m. Arenas will also attend a UAAP basketball match at the Big Dome on July 6 before going back to TriNoma Activity Center at 6 p.m. for a meet-and-greet session and a grand show highlighting his hottest merchandise. - GMANews.TV
