Christian Go makes fastest all-motor RP record in drag racing

MANILA, Philippines – Promising young newcomer Christian Go of Blanche Racing managed to steal his share of the limelight with his record feat recently at the 2008 San Mig Coffee Drag Racing Championship. The 19-year-old Go, a nursing student, got himself into the books of Philippine Motorsports when he posted a new drag racing fastest all-motor record of 10.8 seconds aboard the a black Honda EG with a B20 2.0-liter engine. His car was prepared by Jon Sarmiento of Blanche Racing Shop in Parañaque. Sarmiento incorporated the perfect specifications and modifications to ensure the car’s top performance. Go achieved the feat following his runner-up finish to Tiu in the Quick 8 final showdown despite racing only for the second time this season in the event. “To come close with a runner-up finish behind Tiu is already a big achievement for someone new in the series," Go said. "And to achieve the all-motor Philippine record is even more encouraging." Winning for Go is not all about a souped-up car. “I always keep a positive outlook," he said. "Losing doesn’t make me feel sad but rather it drives me to work harder in the coming races." It’s no wonder how Christian got his knack for speed. His father, now Mayor Edgar Go of San Mariano, Isabela, was himself a top drag racing driver in 1981 and later competed in car rallyes from 1983 to 1986 The elder Go himself encouraged his son, on seeing the latter's passion and enthusiasm for cars and racing. Christian’s interest in racing started at age 11 when he joined a karting clinic and started joining drag races at a young age of 17. In fact, he doesn’t just consider the sport as a hobby but is contemplating on making it as an alternate career in the future. At age 17, he plunged into a real drag racing competition and showed great promise when he copped the runner-up honors in the Clubman category in the 2007 San Mig Coffee Drag Racing season at the Batangas Racing Circuit. From thereon, Christian continued to make strides in the sport. He bagged the Quick 8 crown in two separate events in Clark, Tarlac, and Binalonan, Pangasinan, this year, and wound up runner-up to Tiu in the fifth leg of this year’s San Mig Coffee Drag Racing season last May. “These achievements inspire me to go on and push harder, and I’m looking forward to better feats in future races," Go said. - GMANews.TV
